Phrack World Newsphrack 58-13

I found the second URL accompanying the FBI traffic matching device piece to suck. http://www.mat.sbg.ac.at/~uhl/wav.html gives a log of usefull linke to information about wavelets. Wavelets.com just wants to sell wavelet courses for big bucks.

I believe Thomas Jefferson once stated, "When the day comes that this government, created not more than 3 years ago, rules like an usurper, as had our previous King James of England, we should beat the fucking shit out of those dickweeds." Well, I embelished on the last part but Thomas Jefferson was kind of long winded. This is unbelievable. We should have a really big march on Washington. If it worked for blacks' civil rights, it can work for ours.

Hacking in Forthphrack 53-9

Your Forth colon-definitions are missing spaces between the : and the word being defined. Hence, it isn't:

:sum 1 2 + . ;

it's this:

: sum 1 2 + . ;

I don't know if this is a typographical error introduced by the text processing software used to drive this website, or if it's something else, but the readership should be aware of it.

(Yes, I regularly program in Forth. :) )

HP-UX (PA-RISC 1.1) Overflowsphrack 58-11

Cool article. I was just trying to code an HP-UX vulnerable code and exploit, when
I saw the article. Just a comment for the record, I have tried to compile the code that comes
with the article and I got the following error usr/ccs/bin/ld: Unsatisfied symbols:
__asm__ (first referenced in xploit.o) (code)

It seems that you can't use an __asm__ statement if you are compiling with cc, not with gcc. This is what I found on HP C programmers guide page 195:

Some implementations of C permit use of the keywords asm, fortran,
and entry. These are not supported on the HP 9000 workstations and
servers. You must rewrite any code that uses these keywords.

Thanx for all

Just thought everyone would also like to know that, not only do your taxes go into paying COMVERSE to spy on you, but they themselves do not have to put anything back. Although the connection with israel cannot be investigated (cough) COMVERSE is on the payrole of the Israeli government for operating out of isreal, it recieves (as stated in 58#) a 41% R&A budget subsidy and furthermore has had "Tax-Free status" in Israel since 1988. Is this all because it employs israeli workers......hhhhmmmm we are not fooled

Phrack Loopbackphrack 58-2

I am new to phrack, well sorta. I have been into phreaking since i was 12(I am almost 30 now) and have read articles from the old phrack posted on bbs'(at 300 bps I might add) like 2600 and p-80. Not that much of a hacker, although did play with some old systems dec 10, HP2000, some older unix stuff. In fact a good friend of mine was the first hacker busted in texas. I am glad to see you are all back. I think that hacking and phreaking have changed greatly. Now that access to networks is cheap, free calls or connections to computers can be made easily without really breaking the law. While this is certainly not as much FUN as bouncing off some dickhead TV preachers diverter, it has made the world a better place. The "open net" that we have now replaced telnet and others with a low cost alternative. you can now buy unlimited long distance for a few dollars OR use voice over IP to talk for phree to others over the net. I wonder if open source and file sharing will soon make warez trading the next "obsolite" art by making access to software phree also?

Hand to Hand Combatphrack 5-4

It should be obvious that anybody who reads Phrack is unlikely to be an expert in hand to hand combat.

As a practitioner of Judo for over 5 years, I sincerely tell you that it is impossible to learn much from a peice of writing, rather you need the hands on training the builds into reflex.

Having said that, i'm sure some geek will find your article a good way to entertain his fantasies pertaining the defeat of the school bully.

Introductionphrack 58-1

Phrack is the most comprehensive collection of computer securty knowhow on the latest issues that I have ever found, and the backlog allows for some nice reading about the old basics. (Gives good grounding)

Ah, I only wish I was about in ye olden days of "hacking", but it seems the era of the "hacker" is gone, and the era of the "}{4><0R" is upon us, even though those who actually call themselves such things are usually nothing more than mere skiddies.

My only other wish would be for enough spare time to read all of the phrack backlogs and every article of every issue as it comes out. Oh well, I can't wait for Issue 59 in June.

Keep up the good work,
Nyphur.

Smoke Bombsphrack 6-6

Go to any hardware/gardening store and ask for "stump remover". I bought mine at Menards, but i'm not sure if they have Menards stores in your area. Normally it is sold in pounds (lb) in the U.S. but either way it will look like little white crystals (like salt or sugar) and it will smell kinda like fertilizer. Almost all stump removers are 99% - 100% potassium nitrate and that SHOULD solve your problem.

Everything a hacker needs to know about getting bustedphrack 52-5

in relation to "rats" if you grass someone in australia you will probably end up in jail protection or will face lamentable circumstances, ie 6 foot under. dogs (rats) aren't tolerated. you do the crime, you do the time, otherwise take up knitting and leave crime to the people who know one day they might get busted, don't ever think you wont or you'll be saying "I hope thats sheppards pie in my nickers" Iv'e spent time in australian jails, once I found codes to the phone systems, the screws (prison officers) found out and I spent 2 months down the back (the hole) it was worth it.

Hacker's Manifestophrack 7-3

i remember when loyd was busted, and when that was written. truer words were never spoken.
i remember being 13, sitting down in the library in front of a shiny new apple ][e, and falling in love.
"I found a computer. Wait a second, this is cool. It does what I want it to. If it makes a mistake, it's because I screwed it up. Not because it doesn't like me...
Or feels threatened by me...
Or thinks I'm a smart ass...
Or doesn't like teaching and shouldn't be here..."

18 years later...i'm still in love, and Loyd's words still apply.
